Meet a Newport Neighbor
Many people who move to Newport Cove are downsizing – moving from a large suburban house to a home where they have access to the water and a marina to moor their boat, where they have less house maintenance and more free time.

Gordon and Vanessa Low fit that profile. They started looking at Newport Cove four years ago, long before they sold their home, a large Long Grove country house with acres of property. They finally moved to our community last year. They now live in Newport’s Cottage neighborhood where they purchased a Moonriver model.

Their Moonriver is a 2,000-square-foot ranch with two bedrooms plus a den on the main floor and a full English-style basement.

The Lows are young empty nesters. Son Quentin, a recent DePaul University grad and top-ranked Big East soccer player, has moved to Naperville and a job as a pharmaceutical sales rep. This fall daughter Alyson is starting her senior year at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

If you enjoy eclectic people, you’ll love Vanessa and Gordon. She is a well-known dog groomer on the North Shore, and has even appeared on Animal Planet in a reality show featuring dog groomers. Gordon runs a dental laboratory where one of his inventions is changing the way dental care is delivered to the elderly.

The Lows enjoy exploring the Chain O’ Lakes in their black-and-white Chaparral. A musical family (Alyson has sung the national anthem at professional sports events), they have their basement set up with guitars, a keyboard, even a karaoke system. An avid fisherman, Gordon and his fishing pole can often be found on Newport’s piers. And, Vanessa is a talented artist.

Since moving to Newport Cove, Vanessa has taken up a new passion: artisanal wine making. She buys fine grapes from a distributor who ships them in from around the world.  She ferments and bottles the wine and designs the labels in her basement “winery”. “I’m now the Number One volume home wine maker in the north and northwest suburbs,” she claims.

The Newport Cove neighbors are only too happy to meet a Newport Neighbor to try her various varietals at tastings she hosts now and then in her home. “We love living here,” says Vanessa, “The neighbors are so friendly and sociable. We love the water and love decorating our new home.”

The MOONRIVER – such a lot of options to see…
